An elegant and very rare early 20th Century cold painted bronze and hand carved ivory figure of a young woman dressed in a floor length split skirted dress which has been hand painted with a floral pattern by in-house artist and signed J Kreibich, raised on a shaped green onyx plinth and signed to the base

Josef Lorenzl, Austrian 1892 ~ 1950

Lorenzl Sabina – When looking to the designs of the Art Deco period one talented sculptor and ceramist that cannot be ignored is . A master designer, his bronze statuettes and ceramic figural work epitomise the era perfectly. As with , and Colinet the other great sculptors from this period, Lorenzl was inspired by the female form and the new found freedom that women enjoyed, which he  executed beautifully both in his bronze and ceramic designs.

Josef Lorenzl was born in Vienna on 1st September 1892. He started out working at the Vienna Arsenal in the foundry, where he learned the techniques of bronze casting. Working from a studio in the company’s grounds, he was able to produce many bronze and chryselephantine sculptures. Lorenzl was captivated by the female form he became well known for his shapely dancing girls with long, elegant legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl also was a gifted ceramicist, producing pieces for Goldscheider.

Lorenzl is considered amongst the most important artists of the Art Deco period and his distinctive and quite stunning art deco figurines are highly sought after by collectors. A celebrated sculptor with an eye for design Lorenzl epitomised the Art Deco era perfectly making him one of the most celebrated and iconic designers of the 20th Century.
